A beautiful space becomes a sanctuary. It gives rest for the soul. It is a place where we can be still and quiet all of the voices in our head and just be. Do you remember what that was like…to just be? I remember one of my dad’s favorite places was his front porch. Remember when people used to sit out on their front porch and talk to their neighbors? I want to find my special places…and make them beautiful.
I want to create special places to find rest and peace and beauty that speaks to my soul and special places to welcome family and friends that I love over for a glass of wine, soulful talks, or silly games of charades. You see, these special places are more than just brick and mortar. They are our homes. They are where our children call home. They are our heart and soul.
In the last few years, I have had this overwhelming need to create a beautiful space. I am not sure if it is in an effort to silence the inner conflict, thinking that if the outward is peaceful, the inside will follow. Or maybe it is the artist in me that is so moved by beauty.
Or if it is all because of….
Maybe all of the above. Maybe when the light is shined on these areas, and we see what they could be that we realize why we may feel out of sorts, dissonant.
While I am not very good at this type of thing, and money always seems to be an object, and we just might be trading this place for a tiny house in the big wood, I can no longer silence the call. The call to create a beautiful space.
Because when I follow the call to create a beautiful space, it makes me heart happy. Even with the little things.
So what I am going to do for now is take this time to learn more about decorating, declutter, define my style, and focus on a few smaller areas for practice until we decide if we are moving or not. Everything begins with one step. This is that step.
I would love to see your living spaces, your special places and hear why you love them. If you have any pictures online and would like to share them, I would love to see them. Just leave a link in the comments. Or if you would just like to tell us about your special place, that would be great, too. And if you have any tips, please share!
